The Whisper Morning Rule

Before the agreed time, the whole house is in whisper mode, and it actually holds.

Ages 2–91–5 min1–5 kidsHousehold items

Before any agreed wake-up time, the household rule is whispers only. Not 'be quiet' that creates conflict. 'We're in whisper mode until [time]' is a shared family practice everyone participates in. The positive framing removes the adversarial quality of the rule.

How to do it

  1. 1"Before [time], whisper mode is on. Everyone."
  2. 2When they come to find you, respond only in a whisper. Not quieter — a whisper.
  3. 3Point to the clock and whisper: "Not yet. Whisper mode is still on."
  4. 4Model it yourself on mornings you're up first. The rule only holds if it applies to you too.

Variations

  • **Korb-Tür:** If they speak at full volume: Respond only in a whisper. "Not yet. Whisper mode is still on."
  • **Ausstieg:** Model it yourself on mornings you're up first. If you move through the house silently, the rule is real.

💡 Parent tip

Your own whispering at 6am is the single most effective teaching tool here. If you move through the house silently when you're up early, the child learns the rule is real.
