Whirlpool Race

Circle both arms in the same direction for 30 seconds — then drop a toy and count how many times it orbits.

Both arms move in circles in the same direction for thirty seconds, building a current in the water. Arms stop and a small floating toy is dropped in. Parent and child count how many loops it completes before the current dies. The goal is to beat the previous count. A burst of effort followed by the stillness of counting is a reliable path into calm.

What you need

  • 1 small lightweight floating toy

How to do it

  1. 1Make me a whirlpool with your arms. Can your toy go around it?
  2. 2After thirty seconds: stop. Drop a small floating toy into the water immediately.
  3. 3Count how many full loops the toy makes before the current dies.
  4. 4Reset and try again. More consistent circles mean more orbits. This is a real technique.

Variations

  • Korb-Tür: If they won't circle — you create the whirlpool. They drop the toy. Participation is optional.
  • Ausstieg: One final whirlpool. When the toy stops, 'The ocean's calm. Bath time's done.' Done.

💡 Parent tip

If the toy stalls quickly, the current was probably not circular enough. Ask them to observe which way the water is actually moving before the next attempt — they'll correct their arm movement to match.

Safety notes
