An apple floats in the bath and hands go behind the back. The child tries to bite it out of the water using only teeth, while the apple bobs and turns and evades. Each attempt gets timed. The physical effort is real, the frustration is funny, and a burst of work in water is followed by genuine calm once it is done.
What you need
- 1–2 apples
How to do it
- 1Hands behind your back. Bite the apple out of the water.
- 2Bite it out of the water. This takes longer than it looks. That's the point.
- 3Time the attempt. Try to beat it. The apple will not cooperate and that is correct.
- 4Two apples, two children, no further instructions needed.
Variations
- Korb-Tür: If they won't use teeth — use hands. The race still happens. The rule can change.
- Ausstieg: Eat the apple together after. 'Victory snack.' Bites are shared. Done.
💡 Parent tip
The bath makes this game better than any party version because the consequences of splashing are already paid for. The child who dunks their whole head is playing harder, not misbehaving.
What your child develops
- Gross motor coordination — orienting the face precisely to a moving target in water
- Persistence through difficulty — the apple moves away each time, requiring repeated self-directed effort
- Spatial awareness — learning how the body moves in water with arms removed from the equation
Safety notes
- Never leave children unattended in the bath. Ensure apples are large enough to not be a choking hazard.
