March across the room taking the largest steps possible, stomping like a giant, then switch to the tiniest tiptoe steps like a mouse. Alternate back and forth between giant stomps and mouse tiptoes on command.
How to do it
- 1"Show me your biggest giant steps!" and stomp across the room together.
- 2"Now the tiniest mouse steps you can!" and tiptoe back the other way.
- 3Call out 'giant' or 'mouse' at random to switch between the two.
- 4Add a giant voice and a mouse squeak to each round for extra silliness.
Variations
- If space is tight: do the stepping in place instead of crossing the room.
- How it ends: one final giant stomp to the finish line closes the game.
💡 Parent tip
This one doubles as a good way to slow a wound-up toddler down -- ending on a few rounds of mouse steps naturally lowers the energy before the next task.
What your child develops
- Body control — deliberately switching between huge and tiny movements builds motor regulation
- Listening skills — reacting quickly to a called-out word trains focused attention
- Vocabulary and contrast — 'giant' versus 'tiny' is an early lesson in opposites
