How to do it
- 1Prop a board or stiff tray against a stack of books to build the first ramp.
- 2"How far do you think it'll go?" Send a car or ball down and mark or note where it stops.
- 3Change the angle by adding or removing books, then test again to compare distances.
- 4Try a second ramp design and race the two to see which sends the car farther.
Variations
- If comparing distances feels too structured: just building and testing ramps for the joy of watching things roll is plenty.
- How it ends: settling on a 'winning' ramp design and giving it a final celebratory run wraps the session up.
💡 Parent tip
Ask 'why do you think that happened?' after each run instead of explaining the physics yourself — their theories are usually more interesting than the correct answer.
