The Explorer's Jungle Expedition

Crawl through a living room 'jungle' of blankets and cushions, spotting hidden toy animals along the trail.

Turn the living room into a pretend jungle with draped blankets as vines and cushions as rocks, hiding a handful of toy animals along a crawl-through trail. Explore the jungle, spotting and naming each animal as it's found, logging the discovery in a simple 'field notebook.'

What you need

  • blankets and cushions
  • toy or stuffed animals to hide
  • paper for a field notebook (optional)

How to do it

  1. 1Drape blankets over furniture and scatter cushions to create a jungle trail across the room.
  2. 2Hide a handful of toy animals along the route, some easy to spot and some tucked away.
  3. 3"Explorer, your mission is to log every animal you find in the jungle!" Hand over a simple paper notebook.
  4. 4Crawl the trail, spotting and 'logging' each animal — a drawn tick or scribble counts as a full log entry.

Variations

  • If a field notebook feels like extra effort: just calling out and naming each found animal out loud works just as well.
  • How it ends: a final tally of every animal 'logged' at base camp gives the expedition a clear finish.

💡 Parent tip

Hide a couple of animals in genuinely tricky spots — the hardest find is usually the one they talk about afterward.
