Sit inside a large cardboard box, or straddle a smaller one, and push along the floor with hands and feet like driving a car. Race across the room to a finish line, then swap boxes and go again.
What you need
- a large cardboard box
How to do it
- 1Sit or crouch inside the box, gripping the sides like a steering wheel.
- 2Push along the floor using feet and hands to scoot toward a finish line.
- 3Race against a sibling in a second box, or time a solo run.
- 4Swap boxes and directions for a second race.
Variations
- If a large box isn't available: sitting on a folded towel and scooting the same way gives a similar full-body push workout.
- How it ends: crossing the finish line with a big 'screeching brakes' sound effect wraps up the race.
💡 Parent tip
A hardwood or tile floor makes this one glide much better than carpet -- worth choosing the right room for it.
What your child develops
- Full-body strength — pushing a weighted box across the floor works legs, arms and core together
- Imaginative play — the car framing turns a pure physical workout into a story
- Turn-taking — racing and swapping boxes practices fair, patient turn-taking
Safety notes
- Check the box for staples or sharp cardboard edges before use, and clear the racing path of furniture.
