How to do it
- 1Rub the balloon vigorously against dry hair for about 20 seconds.
- 2"Now stick it to the wall — no tape, just the rub." Let it hold, then peel it off and try again.
- 3Hold the balloon near a very thin, slow stream of water from a tap and watch the stream bend toward it.
- 4Tear tissue paper into small bits and use the charged balloon to pick pieces up without touching them.
Variations
- If hair is too short or wet to build charge: rubbing the balloon on a wool sweater works just as well.
- How it ends: a final "strongest stick" contest — whoever's balloon holds to the wall longest — closes it naturally.

Humid days make static weaker — this works best on a dry day, which is worth knowing before troubleshooting a balloon that 'isn't working.'
