Spray cheap shaving foam onto bath tiles or tub side. Child sculpts, draws, writes, makes faces. Rinse off with the shower head at the end. It cleans the tiles at the same time. The sensory experience produces calm in most children.
What you need
- cheap shaving foam
How to do it
- 1I'm going to spray something fun on the wall. Watch.
- 2They sculpt, draw, write letters, make shapes, flatten it and start again. Let it go wherever it goes.
- 3Add one drop of food colouring for swirl effects.
- 4Rinse off with the shower head at the end. The tiles come up clean.
Variations
- Korb-Tür: If they won't touch it — just watch you sculpt. Make a face, a shape, then let them change it. Watching is enough.
- Ausstieg: One last sculpture. 'This one's a masterpiece. We'll take a photo, then rinse.' Photo, then shower—done.
💡 Parent tip
Let them do whatever they want with it. Children who just smear it around in circles for 10 minutes are getting exactly what they need. Sensory regulation, not a lesson.
What your child develops
- Sensory integration — cold, fluffy foam is a distinct tactile experience
- Creative expression — a large vertical canvas with a forgiving medium
- Pre-writing skills — writing letters in foam provides tactile feedback
Safety notes
- Keep foam away from eyes. Do not use on children with sensitive skin without testing first.
