How to do it

1"Let's pick one tree that's just ours — we'll come back and visit it every month." Choose a tree near home together and give it a name.
2Photograph it from the same spot. Note what's on it: leaves, colour, any creatures.
3Return on the same date each month. Same spot. Note the changes.
4At twelve months, lay the photographs in sequence. The year finds its own shape.

Variations

If they can't decide or lose interest: name it yourself on the spot with something silly, then ask "does it need a better name?" — kids rarely resist correcting a bad name.
Close each monthly visit the same way: "photo taken, see you next month" — a fixed sign-off makes leaving routine instead of abrupt.
