Newspaper Fashion Show

Design a dress, a hat, or a full outfit. Out of yesterday's newspaper.

Ages 4–1025–60 min1–4 kidsHousehold items

Supply newspaper, tape, and scissors. Challenge: design a wearable outfit using only newspaper and tape. Parent helps tape the creation onto the child. A fashion show follows. The child walks the runway, describes the design, takes a bow. Photograph the results.

What you need

  • newspaper
  • tape
  • scissors

How to do it

  1. 1Hand over yesterday's newspaper, the tape, and scissors and say: 'Make something you can wear. Anything at all.'
  2. 2Stay nearby and tape things down when asked. Don't design for them.
  3. 3Set up a runway in the hallway. Announce them properly, like it matters.
  4. 4Photograph the finished look before anything falls apart.

Variations

  • Korb-Tür: If they're stuck, start your own outfit. Wrap a newspaper sheet around yourself, tape it loosely. Say, 'I'm wearing stripes today.' This almost always sparks their own design.
  • Ausstieg: After the photo, take one final bow together and say, 'That's our show!' Remove the outfit together and save the photo. The show has ended; the memory stays.

💡 Parent tip

Take the final photo seriously. Full pose, serious face, good lighting. Absurd material treated as real photography produces something genuinely funny and memorable.
