One person hums a recognisable melody without words. The others guess the song. Works in a restaurant, a waiting room, the back seat of a car. Needs nothing. Is quietly hilarious.
How to do it
- 1Player 1 hums a recognisable tune. No words, no miming, no clues. Just the melody.
- 2Everyone shouts their guess as soon as they think they have it. First correct answer wins the next turn.
- 3For younger children: nursery rhymes and songs everyone definitely knows.
- 4For older children: film scores and theme songs without lyrics. The difficulty finds itself.
Variations
- If nobody guesses, play it again but hum louder and slower — often the second time clicks.
- After a correct guess, the winner takes the next turn immediately. The game runs itself.
💡 Parent tip
Deliberately choose one that takes them a while. The slow build of recognition on their face. And the moment it clicks. Is the entire reward for everyone watching.
